A Banner Year for New Mass Spec Titles
Of the 17 new titles we took to ASMS, we published two and carry four others in our bookstore. The two published by Global View are , “LC/MS Methods” and “Mass Spec Desk Reference, 2nd Edition”. The “LC/MS Methods” gives method developers access to published methods, separation conditions, compounds, compound classes, instrumental techniques, and acquisition parameters. With the click of a mouse, you will be able to search and locate methods from over 15,000 published articles on your PC. Additionally, O. David Sparkman’s “Mass Spec Desk Reference: 2nd Edition” also serves an important purpose in mass spectrometry. This fully updated desk reference is compiled to give newcomers and seasoned practitioners the information they need to be successful for communicating ideas in mass spectrometry.

The first of the four outside titles we carry, “Principles of Quantitative Mass Spectrometry”, by Duncan, Gale and Yergey was written by three experienced mass spectrometrists. This book will prove to be an indispensable practical guide to those interested in understanding, developing, and refining approaches to quantification based on mass spectrometry. In addition, Traldi, Magno, Lavagnini, and Seraglia authored “Quantitative Applications in MS” which presents the information needed to design a successful quantitative analysis using mass spectrometric techniques currently available and widely employed. It is devoted to the researchers of different areas, who use mass spectrometry as a detector suitable for the measurements of their interest.
Gary Suizdak published a second edition of his best selling Bio-MS book entitled
“The
Expanding role of Mass Spectrometry in Biotechnology”. The topics include protein identification; protein, carbohydrate,
oligonucleotide, and
steroid structural analysis; pharmacokinetics; high throughput screening;
clinical diagnosis; and more. Lastly, "LC/MS:
A Practical User's Guide" by M.C. McMaster was introduced at ASMS as well.
Following a thorough explanation of the basic
components and operation of the LC/MS system, the author presents empirical
methods for optimizing the techniques, maintaining the instrumentation, and
choosing the appropriate MS or LC/MS analyzer for any given problem.
