Funnel-Well Optics

Funnel-well optics are the result of field from a high-field region reaching through an emersion lens into a low field region to create a funnel-shaped field that effectively funnels ions through the lens to a focus spot at the bottom of the well region (Figure 1).  Our proprietary Funnel-Well Optics include an upstream high transmission element to isolate the funnel-well region from a high field source region.  The benefit of this geometry is higher compression of the source ions and independence of source position from the sample target (e.g. conductance aperture).  We are able to configure our single-layer and laminate high transmission elements and our funnel-well optics to  virtually any source geometry, type, or application.
